12 Warning Signs of Bulimia

The symptoms and signs of bulimia usually center on the shape and weight of the body.

Guilt and shame usually are some of the core symptoms that surround bulimia. Someone who suffers from bulimia judges themselves harshly based on their perceived flaws surrounding their body weight and body shape. A lot of people are self critical without developing major consequences, but men and women who are bulimic can and have developed very serious emotional and mental distortions that affect their eating habits. The bulimic person usually lives in secrecy, as they feel every thought or action of theirs revolves in some way around food.

Sometimes people who are bulimic are not taken as seriously as those with an eating disorder like anorexia, but the disorder should not be taken lightly as it can lead to very serious medical and mental problems that can last for a lifetime.

Here are some of the top signs of a bulimic that can usually be self diagnosed without the need of a visit to the doctor.

1. Negative Attitude Towards Food

Most people who are bulimic seem to have a negative attitude when it comes to food, and this should be taken as the first sign to diagnose. People who are bulimic usually do not want to eat, and they view eating food as a negative thing that will only help to distort their ideal body image. This negative attitude towards food can even be present when a bulimic does eat food regularly, and it can contribute to their depression because they have no desire to eat but do so anyway. So if someone in your life has a very strong negative attitude towards food, this should be seen as the first sign of bulimia.
