8 Causes of Diverticulitis

2. Hereditary

Another primary cause of diverticulitis is simply inheriting it. If you have another family member who has developed the condition, you are far more likely to develop it yourself. There are a few different reasons that people seem to inherit diverticulitis from their family. Immune system responses are greatly determined by genetics, so some people may have genes that make them more prone to infections in diverticula and other part of the body. Though researchers still have no found any specific genes that could cause diverticulitis, there is also a possibility that some people may inherit certain intestinal structures that are more prone to developing diverticulitis.
