How Sleep Impacts Energy Level

When it comes to total health maintenance and people‚Äôs state of consciousness concerning factors that contribute to vitality and disease prevention, most people are unaware of the forthcoming effects of failing to execute a proper balance within the triad of health—-diet, sleep, and exercise. Within this triad, so much emphasis is usually placed upon the health benefits of diet and exercise that the significance of sleep gets overshadowed.

Being that people have become so socially and occupationally invested with their time, they have inadvertently adapted busy lifestyles with the omission of adequate sleep. However, contrary to societal standards and its enabling of poor sleeping habits, getting enough sleep on a daily basis promotes holistic well-being via physical, mental, and emotional rejuvenation.

Of course, getting sleep is known to be of some relevance to most people, but the severity of quantity and the essential commitment to regular sleep patterns is not. In terms of physical health, getting the proper amount of sleep everyday enables the body to repair and restore itself (the proper daily requirement for sleep is six or more hours). In its restorative stage (period of sleep), the body permits blood pressure to drop and breathing to slow down to allow blood to be received by muscles and tissue for repair. The fewer the number of hours of sleep an individual has, the lesser the amount of time the body must heal itself; therefore, sleep directly correlates to physical health. Because of being negatively impacted by periods of prolonged sleep deficiency, the body develops a higher risk of developing many chronic diseases like kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and even stroke.

Indeed, it is critical for the body to be able to heal itself and of even more importance to maintain regular sleep patterns by allowing the body to receive 6+ hours of rest overnight. Sleeping at night not only enables the body to consistently rest and repair with potentially little interference, but it is also the time when the body produces melatonin and naturally conforms to the circadian rhythm of a primitive sleep-wake cycle.

Activating Metabolic Processes

During the night hours, the body has an automatic response to activate the metabolic processes responsible for restoration. Hence, being able to sleep consistently for 6 or more hours during the night prepares the body for the wake cycle—-leaving the individual to feel fully energized for the day.

In addition to maintaining great physical health, sleeping well encourages the well-being of mental health. Because of the restoration process, repairing the brain means repairing the single most essential organ responsible for directing all functions within the body.

When the brain is fully restored, neurons become enabled to fire faster to relay messages within the body—-thus, contributing to an individual being able to perform at an optimal level with better decision making skills and controlled emotions/behavior. Nevertheless, the combination of being both physically and mentally rejuvenated positively effects emotional health.

Overall, getting the proper amount of sleep holistically promotes well-being by healing the body to aid in the prevention of diseases and contributing to higher energy levels; thus, improving mood and the ability to be more productive throughout the day. Sleep is vital, yet so many people remain sleep deprived.

Even though so many people have adapted busy lifestyles, it is also important to remember to try to get as much sleep as possible. Although not falling under the requirement of consistency, it is indeed better to be able to get as many frequent naps as possible than not at all to maintain healthy efficiency levels.
