Natural Remedies For Nausea

There are many causes of nausea. Your nausea could be a result of acid reflux, a side effect of medications, cancer treatment, pregnancy or could be caused by a virus or infection. Understanding the cause of your discomfort can lead you to an appropriate form of treatment. When nausea strikes, there are many natural nausea remedies that provide effective relief.

Ginger

Ginger has been used throughout history as a safe and effective nausea treatment. This perennial herb is especially helpful for nausea and vomiting due to pregnancy, chemotherapy, postoperative nausea and motion sickness.

Scientists are not sure exactly how ginger eases nausea, but suspect that certain chemicals found in this root influence the stomach, intestines and nervous system to alleviate symptoms.

This anti-nausea wonder is available in many forms. It can be peeled and eaten raw, cooked or prepared as a tea. For those who prefer convenience, it is also available in capsule form, while some may prefer the taste and convenience of candied ginger.

Vitamin B6

This important nutrient helps your body use and store energy from the foods you eat. Some studies show that women who have severe morning sickness have lower levels of vitamin B6 in their bloodstream. This may be why some pregnant women who take a B6 supplement feel better. Vitamin B6 does seem to help with nausea, but does not necessarily improve vomiting.

Your diet should include plenty of natural B6 sources, such as whole grains, bananas, avocados, nuts, lean meats, poultry and fish. If you plan on taking a B6 supplement, 25 mg three times a day are recommended until symptoms clear.
